After numerous setbacks, the long-awaited release of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is finally happening, with the game being officially set to emerge from the shadows on May 25 after long period of anticipation. It's when even skeptical fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved fantasy universe have been eagerly awaiting for this release that you know it's safe to say that expectations are absurdly high for this upcoming LOTR title. Developed by Daedalic Ent. and published by Nacon, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a third-person action-adventure game that puts players in control of one of the series' most iconic and intrepid characters, Smeagol, as he embarks on a perilous journey through some breathtaking locations of Middle-earth's legendary landscape.

The game is set in a sprawling open world that spans several iconic locations from the Lord of the Rings universe where players will be able to explore these locations at their leisure, scaling cliffs, jumping across rooftops, and hiding in the shadows to evade detection. Being known for his obsession with the One Ring and his unique split personality, Gollum is a small and nimble humanoid, which makes him the perfect candidate for stealthy gameplay, offering players a fresh perspective on some of Middle-earth's most inhospitable regions.

What truly seems to set the game apart from other action-adventure games is its unique blend of gameplay mechanics. The game features a mix of stealth, climbing, and narrative choice, which all work together to create a cohesive and engaging experience where players are able to make decisions that can greatly affect the outcome of the game. Will you choose to take the path of righteousness and help those in need, or will you succumb to Gollum's darker impulses and pursue your own selfish desires? The choice is yours only to make.

The game will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Promising to deliver an immersive and authentic experience, the game is shaping up to be a must-play for avid fans of the series and action-adventure lovers in general. The developers appear to have put a lot of effort into creating an immersive experience that satisfies everyone by capturing the spirit of the franchise while also delivering a fresh take on it, with the game's direction, graphics and overall design having been both heavily praised and criticized for their faithfulness to the source material.

Originally announced in 2019 with a planned release date of 2021, the game has since been delayed thrice, with the most recent delay pushing the release to May 2023, this time the clock being firmly set on the table, according to its creators. Despite the disappointment that is sure to follow so many delays, the anticipation for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum remains sky-high, as the franchise hasn't seen this much effort being put into revisiting the games after nearly a decade of silencence.

With what's apparently the final release date being just around the corner, fans of the franchise will soon be able to walk the world of Middle-earth once more and experience embracing what's most precious in life. For now, be sure to mark your calendars and brace yourself for impact for only the future knows what kind of experience comes out of the oven.
